Boxwoods, Evergreens for All Seasons
Boxwoods are hardy and slow growing evergreen shrubs that come in about 90 different species. They grow in the cold and the warm weather. Preferring partial shade, they can grow in full sun and are low maintenance. Before fertilizing, test the soil. If the plant is deficient in nitrogen, the leaves will turn yellow, and that means it’s time to fertilize. However, be careful not to over fertilize or the leaves will turn brown. They are also deer resistant because of alkaloids that are poisonous to the animal.
